Being the most favorite city of the Mughals, he made Agra his capital before Delhi. According to history and archeology, it was settled by Ibrahim Lodi in AD 1504. When the construction program of this city was going on, no one would have thought that it would become world famous in future. And will wave the flag of its beauty in the whole world.

When former US President Bill Clinton came to India, after seeing the Taj Mahal, he said, 'Today I realized that there are only two types of people in this world, one who has seen the Taj, and the other who has not seen the Taj'. . There will be many beautiful buildings in this world but none like the Taj. Because the heart of an emperor resides in this Taj Mahal. You must have seen calligraphy on historical buildings in many other countries, but no other calligraphy as beautiful as the Taj Mahal. The calligraphy you will see at the entrance gate is in Thuluth script. And the name of the person who wrote it was 'Abdul Haq'. Which was called from Iran. In view of his art, Shah Jahan named him 'Amanat Khan'. The stone used in the Taj Mahal, which we know as 'Sangemarmar', was brought from (Makrana) of Rajasthan. The jade and crystal were brought from China. Lapis lazuli was imported from Afghanistan, Turquoise from Tibet, Jasper from Punjab, Sapphire from Sri Lanka and Carnelian from Arabia. 28 such precious gems were selected in the marble. To bring all these gems to Agra from abroad, the help of about 1000 elephants had to be taken.

The construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1631 and was completed almost 22 years later in 1653. And about 20000 workers were involved in its construction. There can be no other magnificent specimen of architecture in the whole world. Every material used in the construction of the Taj Mahal was examined very carefully. The technique of carving on the walls of the Taj Mahal was learned from the artisans of Italy. Marble craftsmen were called from Uzbekistan (Bukhana). Artisans who did calligraphy on marble came from Iran. And balochistan craftsmen were called to carve the stones. The popularity of Taj Mahal is due to the love story associated with it. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Mumtaz's real name was Arjumand Banu Begum. The name 'Mumtaz Mahal' was given to him by Shah Jahan. That is, the most precious, most beautiful, most precious gem of the palace. Mumtaz died at the age of 38 while giving birth to her fourteenth child. The emperor was deeply hurt by Mumtaz's death, eventually he decided to build the Taj Mahal in her memory. As we told that it took 22 years to build the Taj and the emperor's entire focus was on getting the Taj built. So taking the opportunity, his son Aurangzeb attacked and took Shah Jahan captive. And when Shah Jahan was asked what he wanted, his answer was 'imprison me in such a place from where I can see the Taj Mahal at all times'. And his wish was fulfilled. Even during his death, Shah Jahan was looking at the Taj Mahal.
